So I really want somewhere close to kayak fish for something other than trout. I am in fort sask and I have seen on ifish there are some other species in big lake like northerns and perch. Does anybody fish here? Is it worth going to? If not what would be a good lake nearby for pike, walleye etc. Anything other than trout as I get bored of catching tiny stocked rainbows. Thanks.

I have heard that there are fish in there but it is super low right now and very weedy. I can't see it being much of a fishery.

Well maybe not a lake, but the North Sask river has some great fishing for other species like walleye, pike, goldeye etc.

Big lake is way too low right now. It was alright at the beginning of the season but right now it's hurting due to low water and lots of weeds.

You could try the North Saskatchewan river

Lessard lake off of highway 43 or devils off of highway 37 small and not much boat traffic both have pike and perch.

Mink lake has pike and perch. Jackfish also has pike, perch, burbot, walleye and whites. But seriously the NSR is the best fishery close to home, it's very underutilized

The problem for me with the nsr is no matter where I go or what I use I get skunked every single time... I spent like every second evening down there last summer and caught one sucker...

Nsr sucks... Even if you know a good spot it is hit and miss and kayaking is only really fun going downstream.

For little pike/perch/walleye lakes close to edmonton you have mayatan and hubbles(very limited access), a little bigger you have jackfish, wizard, devils, battle, coal then step up in size again for wabamun, pigeon, ste anne. All of these are kayakable just watch forecast and be careful.

I believe there are a few smaller lakes ne of town that might be closer but havent been out that way. Look on anglers atlas map to track down some other options.

When you get sick of small fish hop on your pony and go find the bigger ones. With the exception of wab and odd nice fish in the nsr and muir you wont find a ton of great fishing close to the city as these smaller lakes get hammered too hard.

I would go to Wabamun. Launch at the town site or the PP. Stay close to shore and you will catch some good size pike. Check out the Wabamun thread on iFish. My son and I were out two weeks ago and caught 35. Tight lines!

The NSR is a great fishery. The problem is most guys have no idea how to fish flowing waters correctly either from shore or from a boat.
