A couple of buddies and I hiked up to Rawson Lake yesterday. Sigh... snow in August, but it sure turned out to be a nice day, with some nice fish caught.

Wow, beautiful pictures. Is that early morning mist I see? What time did you get started? Trail must've been a bit slippery with the snow on the ground!
What flies were working? Fishing down low or on top with dries?
I love that lake for how clear the water is. Are you camping out there? Is it packed?
We're scheduled to go out there next weekend as well as thanksgiving day weekend. Hoping to grab a good spot at Interlakes.

Dave, we were fishing by about 10 AM, started the hike just after 8 AM, and yes, it's morning mist. When we left the Lower K parking lot it was -1 C. Flies that were working were a variety of nymphs down low. I tried some dries as there were fish rising through the day, but we had more action on sinking line. Having a float tube really helps as it's hard to fly cast from most of the shore at Rawson.

Yes, the lake is packed, but mostly with hikers. Besides the 3 of us, there were approximately 6 other fisherpeople through the day. I'm on vacation now, so this was another one of a few day trips I'm making, so I'm not camping out there. Good luck if you go!

Great pics, I was up there at the same time. Saw you guys getting ready to launch. Pretty chilly until the sun crested. We were chucking hardware at the far end. Caught four in about two hours. Two were decent size in the 16 to 18 inch range. What was nice to see is that they had some girth. The last couple of years the fish we caught looked half starved.

My group was quite impressed with guys for lugging up the tubes and hitting the water in those temps.

That it was, especially in the shadows! Worth it though
