Hi,
I kinda have a moral conundrum here... I am in the small fishing group on Facebook, and we have one guy (freshly added) who posted pics of sturgeon and walleye fished out of NSR. Should I talk to F&W about it?

Second pic is a burbot and walleye. Could be sask part of the nsr? Did he say he kept the sturgeon on the bucket there?

He fished them within the hour from Edmonton.
Didn't explicitly say he kept sturg, but it does look kinda dead-ish.

If everything you say is true then they should be able to prosecute for the walleye. If he claims he kept the sturgeon then they should be able to go after him for that as well. Perhaps an investigation on the walleye may turn up a sturgeon in his freezer that could lead to more charges. In this case I would call if he posted the location he caught the fish and there is zero retention limit for the walleye.

I would send them a link to your FB group and let them decide what to do.

Going to be tough prosecuting a guy for a sturgeon when you have a burbot in the picture.

That fish was not handled great, sitting on bucket- dirt Allover it.
You could always talk to your buddy first. Get the right story, and then go from there. Educate him if he doesn't know better.

You will have to testify in court that you took the pictures.

I would defenitly give him heck for posting those pics and saying there from the NSR. Also tell him how illegal it is.
As for fish and game, even though the sturgeon looks "deadish" to me also, he could always claim he released it after taking pic. As for the pic of the burbot and the wallie, he could always say it was caught legally in another body of water and he was just trolling Facebook to get a reaction. In any case, if what you have described is accurate, your new friend sounds like an a-hole.

Figured I would post here as well as general section:

Did he say where on the nsr he was fishing because that matters, especially since that appears to be a burbot not a sturgeon. I had to educate a few fish and wildlife officers while fishing the nsr just down from the bighorn dam a couple weeks ago. Walleye limit is 3 (over 50 cm) and burbot is 10. Was a non-issue because I got skunked anyways but had to pull out the regs and show them when the conversation turned to catch and release only. Very friendly officers and thanked me afterwards.

A troll joined your Facebook group. Looking for reaction. Probably reading this thread as well and having a good laugh.

Well if it's legit I'd definitely report him.
Edit: we don't have many sturgeon in the NSR and every one that's poached is a approx 0.01% decrease in the population. For a fish to have that much value, that's a lot...

1. not my friend, just random guy never met before boasting about his catch, which, according to what he said, came from NSR. Edmonton Area.
2. am I totally retarded? Isn't fish on the bucket a sturgeon?
3. Photohawk - wth are you talking about? Testify about what? Hitting "PrintScreen" on my computer???
4. I feel like a troll joined this discussion, based on few answers. Don't mean anyone in particular :)
5. waterninja - heck was given. Not only by me. Since total of 0 ducks was given by him i feel it is not the last time he's gonna do it. There is something else that leads me to believe that.

Group is closed, mod is pretty lazy about accepting new members. Also, know any other languages other than english? ;)

Also googled F&W, have their page open. Thinking about visiting their office Monday.

AK. The simple answer is yes. It is up to F&W to follow up. They can't do that without particulars. If he is a troll, it would look good on him to get a little attention from the C.O.

Sure looks like a sturgeon on the bucket to me...maybe I'm retarded too!

You know nothing more than what you saw on a facebook page so all you can do is pass on the information. Either he's a troll or should be prosecuted. That's up to F&W - that's why they're paid the big bucks. Brutal way for someone to treat a fish like that!

100% report it. Your conscience will thank you, and probably everyone on this forum would too.
