At a farm auction a couple years ago I bought a bunch of fishing stuff, including the "super fish trap"
Anyone know how it works?
It says it's made by hoyme, who I believe is an Alberta outfit (camrose?)
Is it for ice fishing holes or something?

Not sure but looks interesting. All I could find on google was it is a "fish retainer for ice fishing". Never seen this before

Looks like its for ice fishing. Put it in your hole and turn the flate plate under the ice. After a fish has been pulled up, turn the plate to close the hole and you would be able to pull the hook and still leave the fish in some water in the hole. I wouldn't use it as it would be just a hasle to use. Give Hoyme a call and see if they have some instructions they could mail to you.

I'm not sure what it is or what it does ..... but it might be something I need.

Where do I buy one?

For ice fishing, once the fish is past the bottom of the hole you spin the handle and pull up, prevents the fish from going back down and neatly delivers them to the top of the hole. My grandfather used one a bit, still have it kicking around somewhere.

I have one of these for years great for ice fishing for white fish if the hook comes out you do not loose the fish in down the hole . it fits in the hole turn the golf ball knob so the trap door is under the ice once the fish is in the hole turn the knob and the fish is trapped in your and cannot go be down.

Is it for an 8" or 10" hole?

I've only ever seen them made for 8" holes.

Thanks for all the info everyone.
I'll have to give it a try this winter, and see if it's worth packing out onto the ice.

I'm not sure what you are going to do once you are past 4" of ice. Seems there is a critical flaw in the design with door interference.
