I'm curious to see how everyones season on the NSR in and near Edmonton has gone. I fished it only a couple times this year with marginal results compared to other years. My is guess it due to water levels, but I wanted to see how other people did.

I've done ok for the dozon times I've been out.
3lb 4oz sauger last night
9.5lb walleye early spring
18lb pike early spring
No sturgeon I don't bottom fish
Few mooneye to 13"
Few goldeye to 16"
Lots of minnows this year with all the weeds seems like fish have moved around a bit.

Worst year in 15 years. Almost nothing to talk about. Hopefully october turns on

Caught roughly 25 sturgeon within 20 minutes of edmonton and quite a few were 50"+ to the fork , 100s of goldeye and walleye including a few 25-30" walleye. Good season for quality of fish but not for numbers.

Personaly, I found it very slow this year. I Blame it on the hot weather, which is probably what caused all the off shore weedbeds to sprout.
On the otherhand, It was really nice to have all those sunny relaxing days, and mosquitoes were almost totally absent.

I found it very slow as well. Very weedy.. some spots that used to be amazing to fish were nearly unfishable due to low water levels and tons of weeds. I didn't pull out anything this year other then walleye.

I want to try fly fishing for goldeye in the NSR, but I was told that it's too late now, when is the best time to fish for them?...:thinking-006:

You think your season was bad?!?!? That really good in my books. I wish I even caught a sturgeon. You want to do some guiding?

Depends on the species. I would suggest getting a copy of the Alberta fishing regulations from any license issuer.

Different areas of the river have different regulations.

I was reading through the guide last night and I see that there's plenty to learn as far as the regulations go. I'm sure that I will understand it soon enough, but for now it's a ton of stuff to know with hunting and fishing being new to me. I appreciate the tips though.

Talked to a old time NSR fisher yesterday who has been fishing it since he was a kid. He said he thought it was the worst year he had ever had.

Though i used the flyrod mostly this year and just learning so missed a lot i found over all this year not as good as usual anywhere actually. Didnt catch much with the spinning rod either.
