Hello everyone,

I found this skull and vertibrae on my family property North of Edmonton. I realize that the photo quality is horrible, but I had to compress it down to upload; if anyone needs a better version I can send the full photo through email.

I am completely at a loss for what this could be... Nothing has oval eye sockets quite like this, not to mention the tri-sided vertibrae; much like a fish or early reptile. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I know this seems like a hoax but am I missing something here? I am being completely serious, not sure what it is... Found at the edge of a water hole on the back 40. Definitely real bones of some sort, but have looked at every possible animal and can't figure it out.

I don't think it's a skull.

I'm going to resist the urge to have more fun here, and just tell you. It isn't a skull you're looking at, it's a pelvis, with the lumbar vertebrae still attached.

The lack of teeth is telling, though when I was a young lad I was warned that some girls had teeth down there.

I truly feel like a *******... LMAO! Makes sense why I couldn't find a single animal skull that it related to. Thanks for the quick answer, definitely not what I expected but atleast I know! Was wondering why you guys were cracking jokes so fast, guess I deserved it on this one!

Judging by the way it stays flat past the hip sockets I would say most likely a deer. Have nothing for scale so can't judge the size though.

I hope you got a found wildlife permit for those bones from F&W.

Is that needed on your own property?

Believe it or not yes...any found bone or antlers WITH SKULL PLATE ATTACHED...sheds are exempt.

For Naturally Shed Wildlife Parts

In Alberta, naturally shed wildlife parts, such as antlers, can be kept or sold without a special permit, as long as they were found outside of a provincial or national park or other protected area.

If you have found a skull, bone, or any other wildlife part that you are hoping to keep, contact the nearest Fish and Wildlife office.

If you plan to export naturally shed wildlife parts for sale or otherwise, please check to ensure wildlife laws in the receiving jurisdiction do not require permits or apply restrictions.

If you put that around your face and chase the kids around they think it is the funniest thing in the world
Cool find to have it all in place like that usually when I see that sort of thing the bones have been spread over a 15 yard diameter

Maybe don`t need a permit. Can`t tell size of bones, could be a house cat, dog, pig, lama, donkey, cow, horse. All have same bone structure.

Boy I haven't heard that one in a while, my grandfather told me the same thing when I was a youngster, thanks for the laugh !!
