It may be dum question but the Whites look a lot like Shad.
We got what they call Shad (sea run) come into the rivers to spawn
in the spring like salmon.

Those whites look a lot like shad, are they sea run or fresh water ?

They fresh water fish BEST time is to fish is first ICE

Those are sea run ! Once you brine and smoke them they are salty, so, ya, sea run !! :)

Yea I did but my spelling's poor I meant Fishie.

Bass and Catfish are "Fishie" (strong), trout and crappie are "Light" (sweet).

Some Salmon are "Fishie" (strong) others lighter and sweeter but not weak.
:)

And Blue Gills, Sunnys (bream) taste on the weak side but fight like heavy
weights on fly gear. :)

Those are lake Whitefish - they are strictly freshwater here as this province is landlocked (kinda like Nebraska) - so there aren't too many fish around that are sea run outside of the grocery store.

I came to visit my family in Winnipeg for Easter so I couldn't resist to bring my fishing gear and go ice fishing on lake winnipeg catch big Walleyes. I drove out to Gimli and found a spot with maybe 100 trucks on the service road. Quads, snowmobiles, everybody was packing and heading onto the lake out as far as 5 to 10 miles. Thanks to 2 friendly Manitobans I caught a ride on a quad and we went out 5 miles in 20 feet of water and had a great day! We caught several Walleyes, the biggest was 31 inches and the smallest was 12. The limit here is 6 walleye a day and most people keep 16-20 inches - good eating. Pictures coming when I get home. I told my grandkids that grandpa is going to buy a side-by-side to go ice fishing next Easter. They loved that idea.
