Newell is still open in the main part of the lake from North to South on mostly the West side. The South side of the lake is much thicker than the North where it is frozen, Jackfish bay was completely frozen over as of yesterday Wednesday November 25th, with 4" being fairly consistent. There are areas where the ice is uneven in the frozen bays, depending mostly on lake depth...so be very cautious. I fished Jackfish as well as the arm that connects Newell to Rolling hills, water is extremely cloudy with visibility in the 2-3 foot range max. Rolling Hills looked like it was very fishable as well and it was iced over completely, but I did not venture on it. Conditions could change quickly with the weather...Do not take my word for any of this and be cautious, this is just my observation of the conditions at the time.

Fished small draw last Sunday. Only a couple of inches but after this week I would bet 4". I was by Tilley b today there was two guys fishing off dam. There was a couple of nice pike laying on ice. Might have to put a few in the freezer.

Newell went to a 0 Pike limit a couple years back, I'd advise against going there to fill your freezer. Also please educate anyone you see keeping pike, if they don't listen call it in to F&W.

Oops, I thought he meant "Tilley bay" and assumed it was a part of Newell (like Jackfish bay). My mistake guys, carry on as if I'm normal.

I mean pull out of the ice. I don't eat fish, I hate the taste of all fish. So no worries here. Catch and release for me!

Yikes. The C and R police on this forum are so righteous...

You need to get at the fishes head to unhook it. Something wrong with that too???? Maybe we should all do virtual fishing on our computers...

That might promote unethical fishing to our youth. Ban it...

If you took the time to read my post and quote you'd see I was commenting on him "seeing pike on the ice and getting a couple for his freezer". Turns out he was talking about another lake I've never heard of but it's a thread about Lake Newell, honest mistake that I apologized for in the next post. All I did was post up the recent regulation changes in a respectful way. You're the one who started spouting off with attitude and unrealistic suggestions in a condescending way. Maybe try staying out of threads if you have nothing helpful to say.

It might be a long shot but who would be interested in renting their ice fishing unit for one day for sure and maybe two?:shake2:

(Looking for Lake Newell rental)

Coming from Red Deer .... doesn't have to be fancy .... for myself and my wife ... we are both non smokers!:sLo_BigBearHug:

Of course it would be a cash transaction ... no receipt required .... can fish any days of the week ....:test:

thank you cheers doyle hansen

Drive past the turn to Kinbrook island park, 2nd road to the west will take you to the bay access. It's a couple kms

Myself and Tigger72 will be heading out tomorrow, just wondering are we able to park anywhere along that road and access the lake with an ATV or is there a rustic or maintained boat launch further down the road? Am looking on Google earth and I see the road runs right close to the lake. Is there any fence lines between the road and lake? Just looking to save us time in the early morning!
Thanks
