Went out Saturday to see if we could land some early ice whites and ended up catching this. I pulled this 31lbs 10 oz beauty using a wireworm and 8lbs test hand line. There was a lull in the whitefish action so I moved to a different hole and was laying on the ice looking down the hole watching for whites. I put my head up for a second to tell Pike fisher (brother in law) that it was strange we hand't seen anything for a while, not even a pike. As soon as I looked down I saw this thing bite my hook and the fight was on. I couldn't have landed it without my daughter (she kept the line from tangling and getting caught on the ice), my son (the ice scooper), my nephew (he used a shovel handle to keep my line from rubbing the ice) and pike fisher who pulled it out of the hole and took some video and still shots. This fish was a new personal best, beating my old record by over 4lbs and finally ended the 13 year quest for a thirty pounder. After getting theweigh, a quick measurement and some pictures, she was released to be caught some other day. Oh, and we did manage to catch a dozen whites too.

Great fish, Everyone deserves to catch at least one in their life time. Are you on CVR? if so how thick is the ice?

Wow! Congrats on that gator. Very rarely does a large pike that takes a tiny hook on light line get put on the ice.

You didn't happen to see if that big girl had Secret Coulees initials carved in her did you? Looks like one of his big mamas, might even be one of his spots. That's a beautiful Alberta Northern right there. Great job, what a fish! Congrats!

Great fish bro. At 47 1/2 " it was a fat pig...and it was great to watch it swim away.

Awesome day fishing.

Beauty fat jack! Nice work, it takes a lot of skill to land a beast that big on a hand line - never mind 8lb fluoro! Well done sir, you always are putting big pike on the board - keep it up!

As much as I love that fish, the best part of that picture is the smiles on the kids' faces!

Well done and keep bring the kids along. We need the next generation to see the value in fishing and in the outdoors.
