I figured a thread like this would be useful to consolidate all of the other threads asking about different lake's ice conditions. If there's already one of these hiding around somewhere, please delete this thread.

twin valley: last Tuesday nov 24th, I fished an open water lake, two days later it skinned with ice. I would not trust the ice at twin.
pcr is half frozen, I would not trust the ice at pcr.
considering our daytime highs and the big winds the next few days for s alberta, ice making doesn't look promising for those of a stout body frame, or skinny folk for that matter.

keho inlet about 7-8 inches really nice ice, other parts of the lake had frozen, thawed and re-frozen into and ugly landscape or icescape.

a friends dugout a bit more south had the smoothest blackest most perfect ice at about 6 inches.

Was out at Dickson trout pond on Dec 03rd, nice sunny warm day +4C, went out to were no one was fishin before, punched 4-5 holes through 3.5 to 4 " ice and after 1/2 hour I was floating in over 1" of flood water .... uncomfortable. Last night the temp rose to +5C and it didn't go below 0, today forecast is another +5C .... not good for ice conditions ... be careful on this small pond.

Was at McGregor all day today, the ice is extremely sketchy near the rocks and only a few places to cross safely to the solid ice past the ice heave. It's only about 2 inches thick along the rocks and some places it's 2 inches of ice, then 2 inches of water and then another two inches of ice. If you make it out about 15 feet from the rocks past the heaves, its a good solid 5-6 inches.

It was melting all day today so unless it get's really cold at night, it's not going to thicken much.

Talked to a guy that was fishing there that talked to a CO who said that Little Bow boat launch is about 4 inches thick.

There's a large pressure ridge 300m south of the boat launch. Not in its usual spot by the corner. This is going to cause problems this winter so be aware. There is flood water on either side for 20 feet. It runs from tight to shore to the middle.

Just back from Long Lake by Boyle. Not good at all for fishing today. I think the fog and low light was an issue with the perch.Ice was a solid 10 inches and we walked for 20 minutes and was not slippery due to a thin layer of snow on top. Saw one guy driving around. Wont comment on that. Still a fun day. Very safe for anyone who is walking or quads.

Was at Crawling Valley today. Around 8" of great ice. Fishing started off slow but got 2 keeper pike just after 1:00. Seen nothing on the camera from 10:30 to 1:00. From 1:00 - 2:00 I seen 5 pike on the camera. All were very timid. Just slowly swam up to the bait then either just looked at it and swam off or bumped it with there nose. I did get 2 of them to bite but it took a lot of convincing. Most did not like a lot of jigging. Just a slight jiggle did the trick.

Almost went through the ice while walking on at Badger. There has been a significant opening in the ice from the wind and warm weather, similar to the one on the south end last year. One minute I was walking on clear 3-4" of good ice and just about stepped through less than 2mm of skin ice that I assume was open water the day before, the gap was 50ft wide and ran N-S from the dam on the west side. This was on December 10.

Still only 7 to 8 inches of ice in 5 to 8 feet of water yesterday.
Three inches of snow cover.
Lake was clear in some spots and murky in others only 200 meters away.
Good sunny morning and nobody stupid enough to drive on ice although many parked like me on the ice very close to shore.
Action wise very slow. Lots of perch but not one whitefish seen in four hours on the ice with three fishing.

We hit Stoney ( elk- point) last Friday , 8-10" . We walked out but several special people drove out , ussually quite close to other tents and fisherman.
Then we tried Laurier on Sat. Ice was maybe a bit thicker 10-12",we walked out again . There was two trucks out on the ice but not far off of blue birds boat launch.
Fishing was slow at both.

Walking onto the lake aways to catch a few fish or driving on a fairly short distance to have your teuck go through the ice and having to walk off the lake without your truck? Must be just an individual lake rule. I was fishing auburn bay today with about 8" of ice. It opened to foot traffic a few days ago. Landed 6 in about 5 hours of fishing. Had tons of bites though that we missed (gotta work on my timing, lol).

My buddy lives in Mahogany and it has the same rule as Sundance. Minimum 12" of ice before they allow people on the lake.

I agree - 10" is ok for a sled or quad but not nearly enough for a truck. I will wait until we get 18" of consistently thick and clear ice.

Gull Lake ....... 11"-12" of clear ice (Aspen beach and Brownlows area). Fishing was average to good.

I was surprised to see only 20 or so group throughout the entire south end.

We were also surprised to see a few trucks driving around the lake - it was definitely noisy as they passed us along what will soon become Brownlows drive. At the end of the day a guy was pulling a big trailer/shack out with his truck .....

There was one particular Dodge Ram driver who decided it was safe to drive 50km/hr on 11"-12" of ice. We could feel the "wave" 40 yards away as he passed and the water pumped up the holes as he passed.

We were less brave ...... we used a tracked side by side - had to make 2 trips for gear - but whatever ...... no point in risking our lives ....... I would suggest to all people that this just isn't enough ice yet. Maybe another week of cold weather.

There's a Newell thread. I think it's 10"-12"

That's for 2 hours or less. This is for longer.

Fished Gull at Brownlow's today. Landed ~10 small perch, but that was it. Parked on shore and walked out. Had 10-13" ice thickness inside of a 40 yard span. Good, clear ice, just extremely variable thickness.

Was quite alarmed at the amount of people driving 3/4 and 1 ton trucks out hundreds of yards past and just ripping. Spent most of the day shaking my head.

However, great day to be out on the hard-water! Tight lines everyone!

10-12" at Battle. Vehicles parked all over the lake today. I still parked on shore and walked out.

A guy went through on foot two days ago near the east end, its not a lake to
Drive a vehicle on. The lake is Littered with springs.

Lots of people driving on ice to far end from campground.
I see the police have taped off the place where the truck went through.

Perch fishing very very slow. They did not even want earthworms.

Out there today and the ice is a nice clear black 12-16". Buddy drove his 1/2 ton on it and it sounded immediately! Worth the risk? You be the judge!

2015-12-30: Keho Lake - East Piers - 12 to 14" ice. -10°C, sunny with a slight breeze.
Bite was moderate to slow. Lots of hit and runs with pike. Couple keepers.

Anyone fish Sylvan Lately? Looking at trying for pike tomorrow.
There's a good 12" on the south end. I've heard the north broke up bad during freeze up so isn't quite as good. Maybe someone else has been up that way that can elaborate.

About 15" out from the Provincial Park, about 13" around Mulhurst. Nice clear black ice...
