Hey guys first year I'm going to take the snowmobile out on the ice rather than the truck. What thickness of ice do you guys think is safe for that. Given that it is solid ice.

Thanks for this...very informative.

For me, I would double the thickness measurements.

The reason: Inconsistency of ice across Alberta lakes.

Too easy to drill 1, 2 or even 3 holes see 15" of ice and think it is safe to drive on.

Keep in mind that 15" of ice could turn in to 6" of ice only a short distance away.

If the ice is in good shape and solid. It can hold a lot of weight. I seen some idiot years back driving his Ford Taurus around chain lake with only 6 inches on it. He lived to see the next day. Pretty scary though
