Drilled a few holes today. 8.5 inches near shore, 7 inches about 100 yards out. All holes drilled where there was snow. Didn't drill where ice was blown clean. Cheers

You could see where some people had been driving on the ice close to shore already. Pretty warm week coming up. I WILL be fishing opening day. Might walk on though. Shack weighs about 400 lbs so I hope there is very little snow to drag it through. Wishing everyone a very safe and successful hard water season

My season opener always starts on Sylvan ..... if that gate is open, plan to hit Gull/Brownlows on the weekend.

Last year guys started driving on Brownlows, on the Dec 20th weekend ... with this warm weather, hope no one is dumb enough to try driving on next week.

Final preseason update. 11 inches of ice wherever I checked today. Put the shack out and even drilled my holes for morning Pulled shack out with quad. Did see a few spots with slush on top. Big pressure ridge as well. Cheers

Closest without going over!! Still claim victory. You know what is ironic though, I was going to 11 inches but didn't want to be made fun of....too much. For the record, it is always 11-12 inches almost every opening weekend. Remember this for next year...

Winner winner chicken dinner. Good call. Hard to imagine a few weeks ago though

Water looked really clean. Could almost see bottom even when shack wasn't in place yet. Only place water clarity was an issue was at Brownlows last year I think.

Thank you. Last year I fished east part of the lake and clarity was very poor throughout entire season. It was so poor that I couldn’t use my camera.

I remember the same thing. Everyone was complaining about clarity

Was there today for a few hours at Brownlows and sunnyside. Both places could not see bottom in 8-9 ft of water. Caught one jack. Ice was thicker at brownlows, Sunnyside was 8 inches. One guy i talked to said they drilled a hole near boat launch at ice only 4 inches thick. Had some slush on top there as well.Probably 6-8 inches of snow in some places as well.
Salty
