Here a tip for your consideration ….

My auger blade has always been razor sharp, however, when I was out on the ice over the past two days, it wasn’t cutting at all like last season.

Today’s fix got it back to B-new, made sure I got a good sharp angle (bevel edge) on both sides of the drill point and put a small 1/8" wide plastic shim under the back end of the blade, which slightly changed the angle to bite a bit more.

Tested it out at Norglenwold … like a hot knife/butter.

Red Tuck tape held the shim in place until I tighted up the Bolts

Yellow Lufkin tape measures make great shims allso. Just snip off a pc with tin snips. approx 0.006" thick.

My auger was grabbing and bogging down as it went thru the ice at bottom of hole. It wouldn't cut clean through. I used aluminum beer can for shims and it's way better now.

All good suggestions on Shims, what's also important is getting a good sharp angle/edge on the drill tip, I believe that also made a difference on my auger.

A B-new file helped and I used the side of the file to cut that nice clean "V" point in my pic's.

New blades come with shims b7t the beer can or lid of a soup can shims work good to. Shimming means you are putting to much pressure or hitting the head and changing the vlade angle. Need to ne more gentle. Also you if the shims work you can rebend the vlade tabs backk to original so you don't need the shims.
