here is a pattern that takes a little time to tie but works AWESOME when insects like damsels are swimming to the bulrushes to hatch.

that is a size 10 mustad c53s curved nymph hook. I tie them in brown, different colors of green, and black imitates a stonefly nymph.

Looks like you spent some time on that fly with the weave on the body and the legs. But I'm not a fan of the mix of colors you chose. But that's not to say it won't work. Have you tried them? It may be just the ticket.

If I were tying that one I'd try to use more buggy colors, like olive and tan.

Actually Its originally tied with olive and tan but the 2 greens I have chosen have always seemed to work better so that's what I stick with. I fished this pattern allot back home in B.C. on my favorite lake and the fish would take this fly allot more then the green and tan. Also in that lake the insects had some different colors to them compared to all other lakes. Match the hatch and it worked! I rarely post a pattern I have not fished and has not been effective.

I have found that on most lakes the damsels and dragons hatch around the same time the damsels maybe a little earlier but the dragons have moved into the shallow and the fish will take a dragon first instead of a damsel....don't get me wrong i have had great days usuing damsels but most of the time the dragon will out fish it

guess it depends what lake, back home I liked fishing damsels more as I caught more with them. And also when I used a throat pump all I got were damsels.

Wing case is actually overhead project sheeting that I printed a pattern on then cut out and the leg are heat shrink tubing. I have a step by step if anyone is interested. It's quite lengthy though

I will fish the dragon even if all i get is damsel when i throat pump it is kinda like the meat and potato thing........lots of damsel but a dragon goes by and they grab it...........don't get me wrong there is times the damsel will outfish the dragon but i find these alberta pothole lakes have a high number of dragons and they love them

Clyde that is one sick looking fly. That thing looks so nice I'd even eat it myself.

I've had luck on lakes with both damsels and dragons. I always keep a good selection of both on hand. The damsels I find in the spring are lighter green. That's when yours would probably be best Loon. Then in the fall they seem to be almost a tan color.

One thing I've found with dragons is that I usually put on a heavier leader usually florocarbon about 8 or 10lb. Just because the takes are harder. I think the fish know they bite back, so they want to smack them and kill them quickly. But hey that's just my thoughts on it. What the heck do I know?

The damsels back home were dark olive/green color that's why I tweaked that pattern to my liking and man does it work.

Nice looking flies, all. I'd be choked if I lost one of those on my backcast. Do the fish actually bite or do they get mesmerized and awed by the craftsmanship?
