I got this rifle for my some for Christmas. He wanted a rifle that would reach out a little further than his 22. I didn't really want to get a "coyote" specific rifle for him. I'd rather get him one gun and get good with it. No he'll be ready for deer season as well.

His eyes bugged out of his head and he had a smile from ear to ear when he got all the wrapping paper off, opened the box and saw the rifle. But there were other gifts to open so it did get pushed to the side for a few minutes. But he kept looking at it while he was opening his other gifts.

Boxing Day comes and we are driving around to hit up the sales and he wanted a bipod so we put that on as well as the scope. We're bore sighted it to try and get it a bit closer. We'll give it its first good clean when we are closer to heading to the range.

A happy camper and a hunting partner for life.

It's a Weatherby Vangaurd S2 WBX in 243. It'll be good for coyotes and elk, with a properly placed and close enough shot, and everything in between. It should be pretty good for those longer range gophers as well.

We have a spot to shoot to out to 200 yards. I have a feeling that by the end of the summer he'll be a better sot than me.

His smile speaks volumes.

Well done dad.

Smart choice . A 243 and a 95 or 100 gr partition is a surprising combination for a hunting round.:)

Well done and you are probably right about him outshooting you. The S2's are a great shooter as a rule.

Yup, well done dad. Wanna put a huge smile on his face? get him some of the exploding disc targets. My grandson killed some yesterday, he wants to make another trip to the store. They're pretty safe BTW, with adult supervision of course.

Gitrdun, I may have to meet up with you to show me which ones those are. I'm working out of town right now but I'm home on the weekends. Our next nice weekend, we may just go shooting. Those targets sound like they may be fun.

Sounds like a plan. They are called Sniper Fire 65. 65mm diameter, 10 per pack for $22.99 at Flys Etc. in High River. There is an adhesive backing on them, which is good as I was a bit hesitant to drive a staple through them ;)

Thanks! So many of the guys on this board really helping out to make the kids smile.

I don't blame you for not wanting to drive a staple through them. But I will definitely look for them. I may even be out there tomorrow.

Priceless. You're both lucky guys, the time spent together learning from one another hunting and shooting will pay exponential dividends over your lifetimes.
