Here is a burbot I taxidermied to practice for some bigger fish. I figured it was a little expensive to buy a trophy taxidermied fish ($600 - $900) so I did it myself. I put a hole in it but I can fix that, the fins are covered in poster board so they dry out straight, and I have to paint it. Any comments or suggestions would be great. Hope to catch a 10 pounder or so that I can put up on the wall.:D

Pretty cool burbotman. What did you use for a form? Body looks a little uneven as if it could be filled out more but for an experimental project I'd say that's pretty slick. Be sure to post some pics when it's painted up.

Yah it was like a saw-dust sort of thing. I did it quick, it was mainly practice because i don't want to mount a 5 pound burbot. If I get a big one i'll probably buy some foam, and take measurements to get the body perfect. I'll post some pics in about 3 weeks after it dries and i paint it. Thanks for the comment.

I see you set out what you were wirting about last season at this time. I was wondering if you would go the same route as the video that you linked to, with the sawdust.

Looks good! How much time did that take you? What do you plan to use to paint it? Eyes? I have wondered about giving it a shot, but wow it must take a heck of a lot of practice.

Thanks for the post, will be great to see some photos when it is all finished.

Good post!

Looks like a good first try, did you happen to soak your skin in borax and then put foam in? personally next time when you get a bigger one just buy a block of foam and form it your self, i personally think its easier, because then you can shape the fish in whatever position you want. my dad has done lots of taxidermy work and i am slowly learning from him. it takes nothing but patience and time to do the right job.
