Limit here is 10 per day. This particular resevoir is on private land and the owner wanted a bunch of pike removed as they are cleaning out the perch. Three quarters of the fish we dressed out had a full size perch in the belly...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/stonebroke/Ice%20Fishing%20-%20January%2021%20%20%202016%20045_zpsnbypoxwa.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/stonebroke/media/Ice%20Fishing%20-%20January%2021%20%20%202016%20045_zpsnbypoxwa.jpg .html)

We used to be able to fish there and fill a 5 gallon bucket with perch. This time we never even got a bite jigging for perch... Pike are voracious predators!

Those look like some real nice eaters there ...... looks like you kept the ones around 6-8 lbs - which are the easiest to clean and best to eat.

I hate cleaning pike, but when I do, it has to be worth the effort and anything under 4 lbs is a chore with little reward (if you are doing the 5 fillet boneless thing).

Yeah nice limit if the owners want thr pike cleaned out too bad that has happened to all the lake that alot of people access too many big females get kept and the breeding stock is just hammered this is what has happened to every good perch lake that has had jumbos in it and the lake was easily accessible.

I have a body of water on some land I own. How do I go about stocking it with perch?id be leery about putting some pike in there since they would eat my perch I'd stocked. Maybe stocking some walleye would be a better idea?

My thoughts exactly. How did the OP fish private water stocked with perch and pike?

My mistake. I figured Alberta since Alberta Outdoorsmen website. Much as how it was assumed private land I mentioned was located in Alberta. Sorry.

I believe the limit for Northern Pike is 10 per day in all waters in Montana, but I'd have to check the regs to make sure. I know the limit is 10 in all of the places I fish... Pike are very, very prolific and can quickly take over a body of water. We have a reservoir near hear that used to be fantastic for Perch and large rainbows. The state planted Northern Pike in it (don't ask me why) and now you are hard pressed to find a trout or a perch.

If you caught that many fat pike I bet there are a couple real monsters in that reservoir... those are healthy!!

The 5 fillet thing is a waste of time and meat.

Just cut your fillets off like a guy normally would, remove ribs and skin.

Now if you have someone you want to give boneless fish to(kids, wife etc) then give them lower half of fillet and upper portion of tail, these parts are all boneless.

To remove the y bones super easy cook up the fish, then use a fork to split the top half of fillet into half again and all the y bone ends will stick out of fillet. Remove all in one go and bam boneless pike for all and no hassle.

We cooked up a mess of the fillets last night for supper... I have to say that Pike is my favorite fish to eat... Walleye and Perch are great also, of course, but for me I'll take Pike........especially when they are taken in cold clear water and are fresh!! I've been trying to drop a few pounds, but last night's supper put that on hold for a day!!!!

I hope that the only fish that you grab by the eyes are the ones that you are keeping and not ones that you throw back.

Great pike. I remember when Baptiste use to produce that and larger in the late 80's and early 90's.

Thanks for sharing.

I hope he doesn't start filleting them and then decides to throw them back as well.🙄 Some things don't need to be said.

Ha!!! No, we didn't release them as the landowner wanted the numbers reduced. We filleted them all... It's a messy job as they are so slimy, but well worth it!!!

I remember when my son was 6 or 7 years old....He caught a small fish and I suggested that he release it. He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Why would I want to release it?"... At that age, releasing a fish made no sense to him at all.... We normally release far more fish than we keep. I usually keep enough for a meal and release the rest....depends on if I feel like cleaning fish or not. Sometimes I release them all.....
