Thinking of taking my young kids to chain this weekend. Is the ice safe enough to drive on with a truck? Has the fishing been decent? Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Was there last weekend with 50 other veichles on the ice and I caught nothing. Guess I should stick to the rivers.

I've been there 4 times this season and have only landed 10-15 at most. Last year I would catch that in the first 2-2 1/2 hours, and that would be a slow day. Personal best with the wife was over 70.

For everyone else, I have tried everything from corn, cheese, to all types of power bait. The only thing I have not tried is worms.

I just don't know?????

However, the times I was out this year, was around the full moon and not the new moon. I find that the new moon is the best time.(for me at least)

The last time I was there, was 2 weeks ago and the ice was at least 20" thick.

John.

Stopped by there today for a few hours. Ice was 24in. Measured it. Maybe
6 other cars and trucks on ice. Fish biting pretty steady. Good luck!!:)

Did Chain last weekend on the Monday, like 10 000 people out there. But between my wife and I had 42 fish. Just used a number 8 hook with a piece of night crawler , a small weight about 10" up and a float. Simple yet worked great.

Was out there today. Landed 20+ rainbows and had a ton more on the line that we couldnt land (between 2 of us). Nothing huge, but lots of bites.

We were out on Monday as well, If your worried about the ice thickness everyone else probably seen them, but there was at least a 25' early 90's motorhome out there and an early 90's Ford F-350 diesel crew cab with a truck camper towing a 25' enclosed sled/quad trailer. A lot braver then i would be with all that stuff on ice. The fishing was slow for us but it was more of a social outing then a fishing trip, don't care for the fish from chain anyways.

No I was with the masses, we were on the west side almost straight across from the boat launch. If anyone sees the camo truck and red Eskimo hut, while fishing stop by and say hi.
