Holy burb! Well the AO recordbook says just shy of 20lbs, but I've never seen anything that large.

Monster! Nice. Biggest I've seen/caught in southern AB is 9lbs in Travers a couple years ago.

That is an interesting, and unfortunate, comment in the article:

Some anglers find burbot ugly or slimy, and prefer to cut the line rather than handle them.

Many moons ago we seen a dead one in Peerless on the May Long weekend. It was huge. Never thought they could get that big. Would be awesome to reel in a hog like that.

Nice fish.

The comments section is unfortunate... you just cant put those kinds of stories into any mainstream media without getting roasted by the tree-huggers.

I've never caught one that large but I've seen a couple that would have been close if not larger.

They were caught on night lines in the Peace River. That fishing method is no longer legal and with todays regulations Ling are a rare catch on this river.
They just don't go for unbaited hooks and not often for baited hooks where and how we use them now.

I'm not even sure there are Ling in this river any more. I know the Grayling have dissapeared and no one fished for them either so who knows what's happened to the Ling. There could be monsters in this river, or nothing.

I caught a lot of ling out of the peace on pickeral rigs. Mouth of whitemud, the park, bobbys flats. Would catch a chub on bacon and then use chunks of the chub for bait. I caught hundreds right up until I left the area in 2007. They are there. The grayling are in the smaller tributaries upstream like the whitemud passed sulfer lake road at sheep camp.

Wow, great burbs on here.

Going out Saturday night for a few hours, hope to catch a few nice ones for Sunday dinner.

Caught one last year at my local burbot hole that was 10 lbs 2 oz, still had nothing on these monsters.

The burbot fishing has been insane, was out last week and broke triple digits in just over 3 hours, the biggest maybe just over 5 lbs, average in the 2 -3 lbs range.
