Well time has come to try and top last year's Seven Sisters getaway for 3 generations.

We all had an absolute blast last year, so much so we want to do this again.

My folks are in their mid-late 70s so relatively close proximity to Winnipeg is a must. Looking to include bass in the target species. Only require accommodations as this little beauty will be joining us this year.

The cabins we rented last year were a great fit however the waters were a bit "Rocky" for the new baby.

I'm looking for some recommendations/experiences in the area. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Cheers.

Only bass in SK is at Boundary Dam by Estevan.

Close by you have Rafferty Reservoir for pike, walleye and perch fishing. Unlikely to get monsters or huge numbers but can be decent fishing and you can have a walleye feast!

There is also a small pond you could try your luck for a splake at, not sure if the fishing is any good there or not though.

Not a high quality destination fishing or scenery wise but that is where the bass is if that is the goal, also nice and close for grandparents.

If I had the choice I'd go back to Seven Sisters or Lac du bonnet better yet Point du Bois and go up river from the dam. When ever we go back to Lac du bonnet we go up from point, great fishing to be had there for bass, walleye, jacks, sturgeon. It's hard to beat the scenery the only thing is finding accomidations. You could always stay in Lac du bonnet and do day trips from there. Pine falls for cats, lake Winnipeg and on and on, there is so much opportunity in the area.

There you are! I wondered where you went. Averaging 7-10 posts per day and then nothing...seems like someone put you in your place. The fact that you have said nothing is also measure of your true character.

Sorry for the quick hijack Bwackwabbit, nice boat man! I can`t help you with SK but I know you`ll do well. Have fun!

I like the idea of staying within MB if it means more access to Bass.

I would be interested in feedback on both.

Cheers.

If I was back home, I would take you up to one of my favourite summer fishin spots just past Point du bois, .... up the Wpg River to Pine Island, it's remote and got everything on your wish list. Unfortunately, it's not the ideal place for a family retreat with G-parents.

These are great guys but might be a touch remote for the folks. 3 hours from winnipeg doesn't leave an easy trip for the ladies.

But thank you for all the feedback.

My brother is living in LDB now. He's slowly figuring the area out and putting together some fishing info for this season.....hopefully by this time next year I will be able to give you better insight. So far he says Point Du Bois is hands down the place to go. My only experience out that way so far was Booster Lake. Bit of gravel travel involved to get there. Pretty easy lake to fish, only a couple bottom knockers about 50-75 meters out in front of the cabins and the rest is pretty easy to see.

Only boated one MA smallie when we were there but lots just under. Bass are a blast.

I can't believe nobody has mention Riding Mountain National park, it's a beautiful place to vacation . Clear Lake could be home base, many lakes near by
Clear Lake has walleye and pike
Moon lake pike
Lake Audy pike
Katherine trout
A beautiful golf course
Never been east of Winnipeg but a National Park makes sense to me
Lots of resort cabin complexes right inClear lake, remember my father taking us to Johnson Cabins during the summer

my 2 cents

Some of the best fishing on the planet is right in the heart of Winnipeg. Right behind the railroad station the red and Assiniboine rivers meet...

I have countless stories from when I was a kid fishing there. From the walleye swimming from lake Winnipeg to some monster catfish and silver bass! Truly amazing.

Lockport is another amazing fishery. Best part, it's not far from the peg. You can literally catch almost every species Manitoba has to offer.

I'm jealous. I'm hoping to bring my wife back to where it all started for me...

Good luck!

Well in that area you are before is all God's country. I live in Brandon just 2 hrs west of Winnipeg and the fishing is great. Even better around Winnipeg. There is nothing wrong with fishing the Red River either. I fish it lots around the Selkirk area. Sturgeon, BIG catfish, walleye, etc. For bass we have fished Lac Du Bonnet area. We actually for bass go to Shoe Lake, north east of Lac Du Bonnet. Beautiful country. Beautiful smaller lake loaded with Bass.

I agree with Lake of the Woods. World class fishing and if you are going to go all the way to Winnipeg or further you might as well keep going the short distance further to Lake of the Woods.

Lots of different options for places to stay and easily accessible.

Its been on my hit list for a while, probably will try it out in the next couple summers.

Thx everyone after some discussion with everyone involved we have decided that Falcon Lake will fit the bill.

Close enough to required amenities and stays out of the river w/the new baby for now.

Falcon is nice....can be a bit tough fishing at times, but if you have the proper electronics, you can hunt 'em down. It's a solid walleye and smallie fishery.

S .... Falcon's got lots of structure, spent a lot of summer vacations out there, my cousins still have cabin on Block 07 south side, I have a few spots to share. Try West Hawk for Lakers or if you can get into High we got some 20 lb+ Lakers there in summer, Lyons or Camp for Bows, Caddy's another great little lake to try. Jump across into Ontario and hit Kenora to Minaki or up the English River System to Seperation Lake, amazing fishin ... memories of the good old days.

See you in a few weeks ....

If you going to Falcon I would honestly suggest going the extra distance to lake of the woods, so much more options for fish and LOTW has some true trophies lurking in it.

That forum got a little, uhhh, dysfunctional I suppose. A couple members created http://canadianfishingforum.com/ and some of the better contributing members have moved over and only post there. Others like myself still use both, but info is no longer as easy as dropping in to one forum. There's also http://www.xtremesportfishing.com/ but it is more geared toward the north west portion.

Based on some great feedback from fishmonger via PM wd have decided to push on to LOTWS.

Now just looking for rental cabins, anyone got some recommendations?

Thx so much for all the feedback!

I recently got chatting with the owner of a fishing lodge in Manitoba,Lake Athapapuskow. The name of the resort??? I can't remember. The world record laker was caught last yr ,68lbs,pike to 30 and walleye to 14lb he said. The lake has hidden rocky points to extreme caution is needed.

Bakers Narrows is the big lodge there, then there are a couple smaller ones. Can't say I've heard of this recent record catch but that lake certainly has a history of record catches. The lake itself is actually pretty well marked in terms of hazards. But it is a big lake, if you're inclined to make a trip there I'd really recommend hiring a guide for a day. That whole are from Flin Flon to The Pas to Thompson is a gem. Big lakers and pike on Clearwater or Reed, bit of everything on the Cranberrys, nice bows and brooks on Barbe, a chance at smallmouth on Rocky, and then steady eater size walleye fishing on the smaller grass river lakes. But of all the lakes I've been to, the grass river has been the most hazardous. Very cloudy water and lots of rocks. Ask me how I know.
