I know you have seen me use Slender Spoons a lot and quite simply that's because they work very well for me. I think i have an addiction to them. Will be back on the ice this week and will try to use something else for a change. Anyways i'll often end up loosing several fish during the day due to the poor quality treble hooks they come with. So In this video I finally switched out the treble hook and it made a slow day great because my hook up rate went way up and I was landing nearly every fish. So if you notice you're loosing fish while using a slender spoon change out the treble. Or any subpar factory trebles for that matter, put a better hook on their and you'll be happy you did.

This video is just slaying more walleye on a negative mood type day... you can see some interesting behavior underwater at the end of the video as well passing up a jig and minnow.

Great idea to go a size bigger with the treble

You should get your own show, then you can hire a caddy to deal with the marcum haha

Great tip! I've had to replace my trebles as well...lost too many fish, including a monster jack at Wabamun (would've been my record darn it!).

It's like: "Line - check, leader - check, treble - check". Fish comes off: "treble - not check!!!! arhghghgghghhghgh" lol

My fishing partner and I regularly change out " factory" treble hooks with Gamakatsu hooks. Give it a try! I warn you now though, that you will more than likely end up with one in your hand before you are done! They are incredibly sharp!!

Yeah Gamakatsu are pretty sticky sharp, I use their single hooks a lot. Work great for salmon fishing too. I'm sure their treble hooks are excellent too.

So annoying when you spend upwards of $20 for some lures and they have 5 cent crap hooks on them.

Thanks for posting the vid as usual. Sounded like your walking toward the rod scared the final 2 fish away on the video.

Have you ever tried the fast attach clips for you slender spoons. Bait stays on great and you seem to get better hook action as well.

Yeah I've seen those but never tried them. I find with the small piece of bait doesn't change the action too much on the large spoon. Still flutters nicely. I might have to try those sometime but knowing me I'd drop treble in the snow or hole.

I agree with the Mustad fastach. I use them on all my spoons, even my rapala jigging raps. You can take the hook off very fast and it allows you to pinch a minnow head off and slide it onto the shank ft the hook. It holds the bait better and your hookup will increase.

I learned all this from Infisherman and Gord Pyzer. They have been using them for years. Best place to buy them in Edmonton is Wholesale. For some reason FH wants a or more for them.

I love those fastach clips. If I'm fishing vertical jigging spoons I'll tie one on the trebble and another one on top. Changing spoons takes a couple seconds so I can cycle through different colours/styles until I find the one that works.

Those fastach clips are also great for crankbaits and spinners for shore casting on small trout ponds, it saves you from constantly shortening your leader with every re-tie. There's even a fastach clip with a swivel built in.

If you're ever fishing with a worm it's also worth checking out the Mustad Intense Crawler Action hooks. They're shaped in way so that the worm has a corkscrew spin on it when you retrieve it. They're also fairly long, which definitely helps keeping the worm on the hook.
