They called it a Supermarine Spitfire it had lots of horse power for it's time.

The plane labeled f 100 super sabre is actually a f 105 thunderchief.

Great pics Zip.

A little historical note about the museum. Most of the WWII aircraft came from Bob Ponds collection after he died. They were sold (cheaply) to the city of Palm Springs and at that time they all were airworthy and flown regularly. The museum couldn't afford to keep them that way, one thing led to another and eventually there was a lawsuit involving Ponds wife over a hanger of parts that she allegedly didn't turn over to them.
As with a lot of things, there's a bunch of politicking going on behind the scenes but the museum definitely is a must see for anyone remotely interested in old airplanes!

Thanks for sharing.

Was in Fox Creek one day and Whats Up Doc, a P51 Mustang landed there due to weather. Awesome plane and when the Rolls Royce Merlin fired up to leave, well, to quote a certain mod, it was an eargasm!

Around 1995 a B17 flew into Edmonton City airport. We parked in the viewing area along 121st street. The B17 came in low level overhead to land. Some serious rumble I tell ya. The B25 and German tri engine bomber that accompanied it where seriously outdone by the 17.

Nice pics indeed.I particularly liked the B-17.Were the planes open to the public? As in getting to sit in the cockpit/turrets?

Sadly there was no P-51 Mustang :sign0176:

Thanks for posting these.

Your picture of the F 100 is a F 105 The 100 is a low wing aircraft while the 105 is a shoulder mounted wing aircraft Have always been a big fan of the F 105 from reading about them in the Vietnam war They were featured on an episode of Air Aces. Interesting story involving F 105s is about a triple ace named Robin Olds.

For those who asked .... I chickened out going up on the Biplane, it was quite windy and looked like a bumpy ride.

Were staying at the Desert Princess complex, it's just across the wash from the airport, I really enjoy watching the various aircraft seen in those pics fly over our place, one day there was 3 groups of 4 .... 12 pieces of history in formation .... the rumble is amazing.

Is that an F84 behind the F105? Too long a nose for the F86 or a MIG.

Beautiful planes. Hard to match the beauty of a Spitfire.

The magazine is not correctly inserted into the LeeEnfield #3 and the LeeEnfield #4 has the magazine from an Indian 7.62x51 Enfield in it.

Is that an F84 behind the F105? Too long a nose for the F86 or a MIG. And yet it appears to have swept wing, and it doesn't appear to be tapered or flattened enough for an F100. Hmmm.

Yes .... for a small fee, they allowed visitors to have a closer look at the B-17, the volunteers would spend hours with you going over ever detail.

When I was a kid, there was a whole row of them at the Calgary airport. thinking they were being disposed of. Milt Harradence, a local lawyer, flew one for fun. One of the neatest aircraft out there. No paint as a weight saving measure.
