Wife and I were watching news and they were talking about the Queen. I mentioned that she is looking pretty good for being 90, and also mentioned that Charles has sure been waiting a long time to become King. Wife said that they might not let him become King as there has been rumors that he might have early stage Alzheimers.
I imagine that he could turn down the crown and let William be the next King, but is there some rule or law that would prevent him from becoming King if he wanted to? Just curious, not bashing or scoffing at the system.

He would have to advocate the throne in order to not be in the pecking order of British monarchy ,

Queen Elizabeth is a person I have respect for.

Her son?

None. Too bad they can't skip him and make Prince William the King. That would be the popular choice I am sure.

The monarchy is a bit of an anachronism, but some traditions are worthwhile to keep.

As stated earlier, regardless of public opinion, there is no way of skipping Charles unless he voluntarily abdicates or dies.

The queen does not pick her successor. Only Vikings did that.

Personally, I have nothing against 'Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor' (yes, that's her full name). But in this day and age, like many Canadians, I have absolutely no use for the archaic institution she represents.

God Save Canada! :47b20s0:

Yup. Having a monarchy is almost as stupid as having an unelected Senate in a modern democracy.

+1 The monarchy is nothing more than a waste of finances. The crown should have no place in Canadian law.

At least the idiot we have as PM was chosen by Canadians, and we will have the chance to oust him in less than four years.

that family is a strange collection of non working toads. history questions their claim to the throne but I do not care because I absolutely refuse to accept the concept that some Brit is superior to another solely because of birth. We are all equal and the monarchy is flat out idiotic.

Thouroughly inbred clan. :D always wonder where the Hemophilia gene ended up. Carried by Queen victoria and spread to the Russian branch of the family. Key element in causing the 1917 revolution.

Just wondering where you found this. I find that kind of information fascinating

Just google "succession of British monarchy" and you can read the rest of the evening. I can't believe how tight they were to the germans, including Hitler.

I think this info came from wikipedia.
