So I spent part of the day fishing at Coal lake today. Fishing was slow but the weather was great. Heard a guy ranting and screaming on the other side of the lake, shows up a little later to show off his catch. Biggest pike I've seen come out of that lake in the last 10 years. Well over 20 LBS

That's great to hear! Always a fun lake with lots of action (I go mostly in the summer) but never anything that you can't just drag straight in

Coal used to be a great lake to fish. Back in the 80's I pulled out a pike that was 27 pounds. Don't fish it much these days, too many people......

^^^^ what he said. 15-20 years ago Coal had some big pike. Last time I caught something decent was about 5yrs ago when I pulled out a 42" pike. The odd one still lurks in there but not what it use to be

I fish it lots both summer and winter because I live in Leduc. In the winter on a nice day it gets busy, but summer it's not that busy.

Go figure...Jackfish winter kills and Coal doesn't.

It was nice to see a pig for a change, but would preferred to see him put it back. All I've been catching were too small too think about keeping

Do people still fish the outfall at the dam side in the spring? Was crazy to see people shoulder to shoulder and a ton of lines all swirling around trying to catch small pike. This was a long time ago so maybe not allowed anymore in the spring. Good to hear some big breeders are still in the lake.

Technically I think you have to maintain a minimum distance from the south outfall....but few adhere to that.

If I fish there its in the spring wading with the fly rod.

Wow!! It's nice to hear that there is still some big fish left in that lake! Last few years it has just been plenty of small ones. Last big one I caught in Coal was a 40" about 5 years ago

I just saw a bunch of people on the ice at Coal today and I got the itch to get out 1 last time.I will be out tomorrow with my quad and sled and hope to get me 1 more keeper before the ice is off.Good luck to all that venture out this weekend and be carefull. And by the way Coal is not dead-Someone always has to post that every time this lake is mentioned.I caught a lot of 50-60 cm fish this year and also 5 that were over 63.
