Congrats on that football. Did you also measure it? Just curious what the measurement would have been for a 2 pounder.

So what was the girth on that 14 inch? I didn't realize there were 14 inch 2 pounders. Good Job! And you released it nice work! That thing must have been a football.

I dont beleive that the length has a whole lot to do with it, I hooked into some perch a few years back that weighed in at 1lb.15oz, and 2 at 1lb.15.5oz and the biggest measured out at 13.5". As opposed to Last year when I caught 2 over 15" and neither one was close to breaking the 2lb mark. So I am a firm believer that it's all about the girth. Didn't take any measurements of the girth though, just a few quick pics and back down the hole.

i got a real girth 14 incher and it was 1.8lbs. So what was the girth on that 14 inch? I didn't realize there were 14 inch 2 pounders. Good Job! And you released it nice work! That thing must have been a football.

Do you mean 1 pound 8 ounces or did you do the conversion into 1.8 lbs making it roughly 1 lb 11 oz?

These are the ones we want to keep to spawn...big fish produce big fish...I saw the decline first hand on a lake accessible only in the winter in Duck Mtn Park on the Man/Sask border (East Angling). Within 5 years the lake went from producing 12-15" perch and 20-36" pike to only 6-10" perch and 12-18" pike...it was "word of mouth" that saw the decline of this lake. And at that time there was no limit on perch in Manitoba, so everyone kept the big ones and threw the little ones back. I always tried to explain to my fishing partners that keeping all the big ones will soon 'kill' this lake of large fish but they always laughed....now a days I only keep what I'd need for one meal, but a perch ...well I've only caught one in the last 9 years...so pickins are pretty slim.
To all my fellow anglers who love and protect our resource for the future..I tip my hat :D Goodness knows we all need more of us around to protect the fisheries for our children's children :D: fishing:

That is an absolute "Hawg", congrats! I just love catching (and eating) perch. My personal best was 1lb 11 1/4 oz back in the early 80's on Missawawi. My uncle caught one just before me that was 1lb 10 3/4 oz. Being a more knowledgeable caretaker of our resources now I would snap some quick field photos and release it as you did. Back then we ate 'em. I regret that...

Very nice. I managed a 2lb 2oz perch about 20yrs ago out of North Buck Lake. 15in long she was. Been a long time since I've see another beauty like that. Good to see another 2lb-der
