The fishing was slow but we managed to ctach 3 burbot, and five pike. All the pike were about 22-24 inches. There were two small burbot but we got a 6.5 pound one. The burbot were a lot slower than expected. Anyone have a bad day compared to last year. I remember around this time last year some parties were catching 10-30 burbot in a day. How did everyone else do? The one in the picture was suprisingly a male, it had no eggs just a huge liver, and the stomach was full of the freshwater shrimp, scud things.

Freshwater shrimp/scud (and lots of them) are the only thing I've found in burbot stomachs this year. Makes me wonder why I fish for them using minnows.

I found it was pretty slow Saturday, compared to the same time last year at the same spot anyway. We only landed one keeper burbot, a bunch of pike made the day worth it though (all nice size). The eggs were still in pretty tight bunches in the burbot, according to my notes from last year the spawn seems a little behind. At least i got to enjoy a nice silent day on the ice with tons of shoulder room and no intoxicated neighbors. I talked to a couple groups at the end of the day, no one had an "incredable" day but most fared a bit better than we did. And the burbot was full of chironomids with a perch and other unidentified fish in its gut. The burbot always seem to have a full belly in that lake. Hopefully it picks up, i'd like to get at least a few more meals of burbot this winter.

Yeah, the burbot seemed a little behind. Maybe thay can detect when to spawn according to the weather because it has been cold lately. I remember last year on March 8 or something it was 13 degrees out. Hopefully it will warm up soon. I hope the fishing is better next week.

Thanks. It was suprising because we caught it at 12:30 pm. It was a stupid fish it took ot forever to find the minnow.

No about 8-10 feet by weeds is good.
