OK, with all the new fishing Derby rules in place it is now time for the Govt to step up to the plate and add a bit of capital to the sport.
First off limit the # of participants to 700 on lakes larger than 4 miles wide by 7 miles long , smaller than that , limit them to 500.
Lower fees to 30 bucks for all , adults and kids , dogs 5 bucks to cover the cost of the pick up after ,crew.
2ND , have the county come in on the day before and plow a 4 lane road around the lake about a half mile from shore to give all participants equall access , 2 wheel drive vehicles will then be able to have fun too instead of diggin out.
The Govt can provide funds to the Derby directors to buy a cheap plow from an auction , if the county plows are unavailable , and the Derby staff can then do the plowing , this may be the best plan.
Now with this done , it now opens the lake to an all new cliental , the Derby owners can now hold a speed skating race , with entree fees , Olympic athletes will come from around the world to train on thease large rinks skating into the winds.
Pleasure skating for the wives that dont fish , and the kids too , will be available , all will be able to skate clear around the lake .
If the wind is blowing each skater can now hold up a make shift sail and be blown around the lake, and back again , great fun , and most of the sounthern lakes have great wind.
Ice boat races can be held too , with an entree fee , and great prizes like baseball caps and coffee mugs.
Have a medic facility and an ambulance available for all on standby.
The teenagers can now do wheelys in designated areas with there quads.
Build new large Quansets , with full facilitys , lots of porta potties every
1/4 mile with a coin operated door.
Have a fish and chip stand selling store bought Walleye from costco at 25 bucks a pop for the rich , and deep fried suckers for 1 buck a fillet for the lower class , great business adventure for the local farmers wives or the auxillery clubs.
All the new facilitys and services can be paid for by Stelmachs team , who can also show up at times and make a speech while he fishes.
Dog sled races can now be held too , with a course set up in the surrounding shore , fees will be set up for this as well.
Hockey and curling buffs wont be left out either , rinks will be plowed out and painted so when the fishing is slow the old men can have a game of curling useing tin cans filled with cement which they will make themselves and bring from home , highly decorated with their name on it , now instead of playing cards and drinkin rum , the old boys can have a old fogies match and scream HURRYYYYY or WHOAAAAA ta git their heart pumpin.
As for the hockey Moms and Dads who miss the screamin , this will fill the bill and mega phones will be available for a small fee when the hockey games start on the designated areas.
Hockey games like the old days out on the pond , when the kids get bored watching the hole , they will now be able to participate in an old fashioned game of Gretsky , wonderfull.
The fishing hole will be allowed a small stand to sell tackle and have draws on such , plus free giveaways , instuctions will be made by Kelly on how to properly set up a tip up.
