Anyone here know if I were to only use a 45 lb trolling motor on a 12 aluminum boat how long I could potentially fish for and if it would get me around ok on a lake in let's say optimal conditions? I know it depends on battery size and such

I've been using a 30 lb on my 14 ft aluminum with no issues.
Works good for about 5 hrs, all depends on your trolling speed.
I always have 2 batteries.
On a bigger lake you have to be careful no matter what you have with a smaller boat. I would recommend a 50 lb thrust with the maximizer
You might save battery life going smaller than a 50 although imo

I have the same setup and use a deep cycle battery from Costco. I generally troll quite slow and will often stop and cast. Very rarely will I run at full speed. With 2 adults in the boat I've gone a couple days of fishing like this, maybe 5-6 hours a day.

I wonder if a solar powered charger would help out on a sunny day?

I would think length of time you would have to consider if any wind is working against you.
