I'm thinking about heading out on the Crow for some winter fly fishing. Any thoughts or suggestions on places to try and flies to use?

The Crow should be good to go

Try using nympths

After a few days of plus 6 or so degree weather the winter midges start to hatch. I'd use a dry trico patern in size 18 through 22. If their taking you are in for a very good time. You'll need some #6 or # 7 tippit and a gental hand.

Also, as already mentioned take a few small dark stones (size 14 - 16) and maybe some Rick's Mink's nymph in the same small sizes.

Have fun.

Try the midges if you are seeing some risers and if that isn't working go with nymphs right to the bottom. The key is to make sure you are hitting bottom with your rig. I would toss on a san juan worm for sure and maybe a little green or black chronie or like said before a stone fly. I am thinking of heading out that way in the next couple weekends to hike the river. If you do end up going post a report and let me know how things went.
