Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good spots to try to catch a burbot on the NSR? and what setup should i use? I have never caught one before and would like to try it out. Thanks for the help in advance.

Where slow water hole is next to flowing water. It just swirls around slowly. Usually decent depths in eddys.

Look for a backflow of water, where there is less current. It's usually a deeper hole that all types of fish gather because often times it's where the feed ends up.

Great pics to explain eddies TMoose.
Burbot like to feed on silty or sandy bottoms more so than gravel too. On the river the best time to fish for them is at night. Minnows on a bottom rig. Burbot find their food with their barbell so right on the bottom has better odds.

another tip is in a P rig don't tie the weight directly to the rig, clip on a good size rubber ban or lighter line to attach the weight. in the eddies if there is snags you only lose the weight and not the entire rig. the catch is bring a good supply of weights.

I have found that Burbot in the NSR prefer Dew Worms to Minnows. Have also noticed that you can catch a lot of Burbot in the early spring but they seem to disapear after that. Can't ever remember catching a Burbot or seeing one caught after middle of May.

I was out there all day today near hermitage then to white mud but no luck with burbot. i tried minnows and worms... anyone have any deep holes they wanna share?

Like I mentioned, and I don't know why, Burbot don't seem to bite after spring. Maybe they migrate to Sask.
More likely to hook up a Sturgeon in deep holes now.

So, what if a guy happens to have come across a nice long 30-35' hole on the outside bend in the river???
