I need to get more patient fishing partners lol. Nobody will sit there and wait with me. What you use for bait. I tried worms but the gold eye take it all the time.

I typically use Minnows or worms on my rigs. It's weird last year I've fished prob 40 hrs to catch my first of the year sturgeon. This year 45 minutes. Ha just gotta put your time in properly.

What do you consider proper gear

What do you consider proper gear

A strong MH or a H rod. Reel with 15+ lbs of drag. At least 30 lb main line, I use 50. A sturgeon sliding rig using sturgeon leader or 30-40 lb mono leader.

You need heavy gear and you need to bring the fish in fast. Guys that say they fought a sturgeon for half an hour to an hour either are using incorrect gear or way over playing the fish. You should be able to bring the average sturgeon in within a few minutes. Play them just enough to take the edge off then handle them quickly in the water and they should swim away strong and survive to see another day.
