A buddy of mine caught this MONSTER PIKE, at Leslie Beach on Fishing Lake, just north of Foam Lake, SK, it was caught on a perch rod with a yellow jig and a piece of smelt tail,Hewas using 8lb test and fought it for 10- 15 mins. They took it to the local Co-op but the scale would only go to 35 and cut out ,so 22 hours later He took it to the Shop Easy and it weighed 39.3lbs, He can't help but think the live weight was 41 -42 lbs but it dried all out in the back of his truck before He got it weighed. CONGRATS BUDDY ON A MONSTER FISH OF A LIFETIME!!!

EVERYTHING is bigger in Saskatchewan, the mosquitos, the deer, the cold .... Yes, the Pike as well. As for dryout, from the Pics it is clearly very cold. The fish likely froze, and there would be no dryout as sublimation takes months.

HOWEVER, Congrats and don't feel bad about keeping that fish. It has spread its genes for at least 30 years, and has replaced himself many many times. Probably would not have lived much longer in any event.

Here in Alberta that would have been a provincial record. I think Saskatchewan's record is 42 pounds. It would have been interesting to see the weight right after he caught it. Freshwater fish of a lifetime.

congrats to your bud MB1; that's a heluva fish. I'm glad you posted the pics (and don't blame him for keeping it) in spite of the flack you will inevidably recieve from some of the folks here. that is the fish of a lifetime; only people who are jealous would say otherwise, because they can't have a chance at her. I'd sure like to find my own

First of all a big congrats to the fisherman that got this hog on the ice....

Second of all ,,, we are all given only a very few big fish in our lifetime to catch. When you are presented with such an opportunity as this you should not pass it up but bring it on in and enjoy what it has to give... Really when you look at the big scope of things this one fish gone from the pool will not make that much difference.

Nice fish guy,,, well done...

Awesome fish! WTG

As long as you catch the fish legal, do what you want with it. Eat, Mount, or Release - enjoy!

to mount!!

measurements and pics can do the same as a real mount but last much longer as your not using the real skin. Myself I would let it go to spawn if it aint already spawnded out but for another person to catch and enjoy the rush to let go again for another to enjoy. To each their own though, it is a leagal fish and would make plenty of nice steaks for the fryer or bbq on a plank! Congrtats on the nice fish!

I let danm near everything I catch go juct for that reason, so someone else can catch that same fish and enjoy the experience I had! Not saying I don't keep the oidd fish for eats but they are the smaller ones as thery tast better and are more plentifull.
Funny thing , I was just talking to my father who loves pike and I told him I was going to badger for the weekend. If I caught a 25+ lber I'd let it go after taking a picture, he almost sh@#! Oh well That 's what makes a great fishery!
And I'm not trying to sound "SELF RIGHTIOUS" :evilgrin:i;i'M JEALOUS:D::D NICE FISH AGAIN!!:):)

Fantastic fish, and to catch it on 8 lb test line is a record also. What size of a hole did it come out of? There are more pic's over on menoutdoors.com. look for pikezilla.

i think the proper treatment for that gator would have been to casually spoon with it on the ice for a few minutes:love:, then quietly kiss it and return it to the lake:huh:

So I guess that's the only big fish ever caught and kept out of there? Don't get me wrong "nice catch" but to think he's the only one catching and keeping the big ones you're mistaken

Nice catch that's for sure, I would love to handle that fish in the summer though from a boat let her run at it a couple of times that would be much more fun than figthing it at a hole, but myself I would most likely let her go as well, contamination in that fish would most likely have alarming levels...
Consume 1 piece a week to remain healthy

Nice catch dude,

Cheers !
