Just came back from Sibbald lake near Morley.
Countless dead fish all along the shore. Saw a few at the surface that were barely alive.
I'm not sure when they stocked it, but whatever went in there is basically dead now. Pretty sad. Not sure exactly what happened, but it's basically a pond, and the level looks lower than usual. Quite a sad waste.

It's a shallow lake and it's been very warm this year. That's likely the culprit.

Dang Global Warming.

That could be it. It's the pond by the campground. They stock it every year.

Why they would stock it , the water level has been low for the past 2 years, its not like iy drained in the past 30 days. what a waste of resources.

You think they would check the water temps before deciding to dump a truckload of fish, maybe the holding tank overheated? There are other sloughs that get a lot more sun exposure but have not died off.

According to the stocking chart, the stocking of Sibbald Meadow Pond was done the week of April 26. F & W could not have predicted the heat wave. I highly doubt they would stock with any knowledge of an impending kill. They put a lot of effort into raising fry and it would be heartbreaking.

According to news article it was stocked 2 days before fish went belly up.

Also says it went up 7.5 degrees in that two days ... which is quite a jump over a weekend.

It's a shame none the less. The funny part is a guy saying it's gross and unsafe for kids ... no sh!t it's rotting flesh. Don't let your kids play around corpses.

Such a shame. When I was a youngster, that was the lake I was taught to fly fish. But in the many years I've gone there, I still always find it hard to believe they let people swim in that thing. I mean every Fall, the free range cattle use it as their personal toilet. But that's just my opinion.
