How to catch rdr eyes near drumheller

I can catch goldeyes galore and have tried almost everything to catch a walleye and am getting bored of goldeyes need help or tips to catch anything other than goldeneyes

Location. Try different spots and at dawn and dusk. Typically this time of year theres lots of gold eyes then it dies down for the mid summer.

I use a pickerel rig and salted minnows around Brooks. After 7 - 8 pm ish seems to be good. Look for still water just off a current and any creek or canal outlets.

Works great for burbot early in the year as well. I tend to stay away from worms, too many suckerfish.

Went with prig and minnows last night and caught nothing then decided it's better to catch gold eyes than nothing and caught 5 and a sauger

Regardless of what lure, it's hard to keep goldeye off. I've had the most success on the RDR catching wallies with a jointed rattling rapala, grey in color.

With that said, i'm not allowed bait (other than maggots) on my stretch of river so can't speak to anything else.

Minnows on a pickerel rig will work for walleye. Spoons and cranks would work too.
I would agree that when the gold eye are around they'll bite almost anything even spoons/cranks just about the same size as them.

For myself between mckenzie and tolman, spoons work best for goldeye and pike. Jigs seem to be the only thing catch walleye on and the goldeye don't go as crazy for them as they do for spoons when you're trying to keep them off your hook.

I caught a mooneye right by the dinosaur trail rv park, from their 'boat launch' area in sept last year. Used a spoon, only caught the one, right about the time i caught it a dad came along with his kids and let them jump in the water right next to where i was fishing. Needless to say i had a few words with him about how reckless it is to let kids jump into water right by somebody fishing.

And your point is what? You have a cheap reel that makes a lot of noise

Was about a million of these things around as well, fishing the bottom you got one every cast.

Only caught one lone walleye around noon. Little guy about 40cm.

nice job, i find it quite fun to catch those river chubs keeps ya busy all day. especially on ultra light gear.

Anybody figured out how to smoke gold eye? Mine stay mushy. Can't seem to firm them up. Not sure what I might be doing wrong?

Jig w a minnow is great, head down to the big dinosaur by downtown drumheller, look for where the current slows into a deep pool, sauger and walleyes

Anyone noticed river slowing down only catching 1 or 2 goldeyes a day.

Nice, here's a little sauger I caught this passed weekend as well. (Sorry I know the wet sand isn't the best for them but my fish board was back in my truck and I wanted him back in the water asap).

Was my first sauger.
