Just a few photos to share.

Fishing at midnight on Great Slave Lake.
Most of the time I was having too much fun to think of photography but this evening there was some sort of insect hatching from the lake.

Thousands of Dragonflies congregated along the shore line to feed on the emerging insects. It started just before midnight and lasted for over an hour.
The effect was unbelievable. There were literally clouds of dragonflies along the shore for as far as one could see in either direction.

We fished on through it all, thankful for the Dragonflies for when they showed up the Horse flies left Dodge in a hurry and the Mosquitoes went into hiding.
It was magical and so peaceful.
With the sun setting as a background it was a once in a lifetime experience.

I've been privileged to see this sort of event twice - once at a remote location and once urban. On both occasions there was a huge hatch or just cloud of small bugs which a horde of dragonflies almost seemed to be "herding" into tighter balls, and then they attacked, zipping through the dense cloud of small bugs, and you could literally hear the "zap, zap" of them snapping up their prey.

Fishing was a bit disappointing so I didn't take any photos of the fish.

The limit is only one a day and a total of two so we all limited out on day two.
Then we explored the lake for two days, and eat fish. :)

The biggest fish we caught was an 18 pound Jack. The average was somewhere between 10 and 15 pounds. I think the smallest was a six inch Jack one BIL caught. It was the only small fish we caught.

We caught mostly Jacks. I caught one Goldeye and one brother caught a Goldeye.
Our exploration was intended to find additional species we know are in the area, but wind limited our range so we were unsuccessful on that goal.
