Minnow ID.

Ive got a minnow trap in the farm pond for the grandkids to have fun with . I know the shiny ones are spot tails but can someone identify the other 2 types for me ?

The two top ones look like fathead minnows to me. Males and females can look quite different, with the males getting quite dark and developing an enlarged head during spawning. I would guess that the middle one is a male, and the top a female.

Definately a fathead minnow in the middle. Bottom one looks like a spottail shiner to me.

Thanx guys , I knew the shiny one was a spot tail , exact same as in the packs you buy .
