What is your preferred technique catching fish? (general topic because it encompasses more than one sub topic)

Jigging or slip bobber.

I usually only fish for Walleye so I jig with a minnow, or troll with a bottom bouncer.

I like to sit back with a beer in the fighting chair while some crew bait, cast and tend to things. Then after she's all hooked up nice, I like to reel them in. Ah, the good life. :)

Buzz Bomb for lakers, wedding band with a maggot for kokanees, five of diamonds or mepps for Bow river browns. Bumble bee on a fly rod for all of the above.

No explosives option?
Only 10 options, it would have been # 13 after nets and electro fishing

All of the above - depends what my target species is, what type of water we are fishing, etc..

I've never tried noodling ......... could be fun ......

I didn't see my option.

I have an above ground septic tank and I raise Tilapia to smoke for my inlaws.:) They think they are Chum salmon strips.

I prefer whatever works.

I don't fish for the enjoyment of using the gear, I fish for the enjoyment of eating and for the time away from civilization. With friends.

Bait fishing in a major river system. The aspect of never knowing what you may hook into is what I like.... Is it a pike? Walleye? Burb? Goldeye? Mooneye? Sauger? Sturgeon ? Is it one of several types of sucker? Guess I'll reel it in and see what I got......pickerel rig with a minnow on top and a worm on the bottom is going to catch every species in the river.

For me, nothing better than over the side, jig with a minnow, straight down. Wait for the nibble. Favorite way to fish Walleye.

Lindy rigging with a leech is a close second.

I love the slip bobber action over a pile of active walleye. However downrigging a clear BC lake with a chance to pull out a monster has to be slightly more exciting for me.
I'm pretty well rounded. Love to float the Bow with a flyrod, adapting to new lakes such as Wabasca, finding structure in a reservoir... It's all good!!!

Tough to pick just one, different species require different technique so depends.

I have about 3 species that I concentrate on fishing at different times and depending on time of year that's my favourite. Throw in the other half dozen species a guy chases and well,, you get the picture.

I think if someone has a preferred type or species and concentrates on that species they are robbing themselves of some experiences. The more diverse one is in species and method it only broadens your knowledge of fishing in general and as such your success.

I think people are missing the point. Just because you have a preferred method doesn't mean you can't adjust or be well rounded...

Yah but one can't answer a specific question that has more than one answer.

I prefer fishing with a down rigger and bait when targeting Chinook salmon in Aug because that is my favourite fish to catch in Aug.

I like tossing jig tipped minnows on anchor for June walleye because that is my preferred target in June.

I like down rigging with spoons for Lake trout in July because that is my preferred target in July.

Ice fishing from Dec through March is my favourite cause well we have no choice in this part of the world.

I like not one better than the other and I think that's the point the others are trying to get across.

I know what you're saying and agree that is really depends on time of year and target species.
I look at his thread like this: it's my choice to fish any way any species. I probably go down rigging if I get to pick....
Just a paradigm thing. I agree 100% with you. Just looking at it different.
I'll ask this question: you pick time of year/lake/target species. What do you pick?

Lol,, I hear you.

I really don't think I can pick one, but I can pick two.

Down rigging with bait for Aug Chinook.

Tossing minnow tipped jigs for big June Walleye.

That's pretty much an even split for me.

My favorite way to catch fish is with a cold drink in one hand and good friends at the other end of the boat.

Fishing any style is better than working!

Not necessarily, I've seen guy's with fly rods using bait on more than occasion (grasshoppers), and I've seen countless guys using flies with spinning gear ie. bead head wire worm on a scud hook hanging below a slip bobber for lake whites, trout guys using a streamers and nymphs below a bobber.

I really don't have one favorite lure or method. As a matter of fact I often switch methods just for a change.

When I get tired of casting I'll put on bait and sit back and enjoy the scenery.

I don't fish for flies, I don't like they way they sizzle and skitter about in the pan.

I prefer spoons.

I also will bait fish but only when I'm lazy.

I would rather spend 12 hours chucking different spoons trying to figure out what's working , getting skunked,
Than sitting and waiting for something to take the hook.

I mean it's called fishing,
Not catching.

Probably over 90% of the fishing I do is fly fishing but, I still use other methods as well.

A spoon chucker hey.

You must be one of the guys the krill surveyors talk to at the dock when they determine there is no walleye left in a lake and they shut it down cause its collapsed. All the while the bait fisherman's fingers are bleeding and raw from taking walleye off the hook all day. But he doesn't get in the survey cause he is out there till dark having a blast catching walleye,, in that collapse lake.

Lol,, I kid of course :) :)

Nothing beats top water. Be it fly fishing with dry flies going for some form of trout, or throwing plastic frogs into the weeds looking for gators nothing gets the heart racing like seeing your lure/fly disappear in the big swirl of mouth and fins.
