Planning a trip to the east arm of Great Slave from Fort Resolution, will be spending a few days there camping and fishing for Lakers. Has anyone done a trip out there before? Any hints or tips?

Keep a lure in the water and you should have loads of lakers.

I spent almost two weeks in the east arm this year and a few weeks in prior years. Did pretty well, catching one fish just over 30 pounds, 2 over 20, and a handful of 15's. I was using mostly large spoons, and t60 flat fishes, sometimes with 2 ounce banana weights (I don't have a down rigger), however i caught a 20 from shore, as well as 2 15's. The lake has the most ridiculous structure i have ever seen, anywhere you look has what looks like perfect structure, it is really easy to find a good spot, but hard to find the best spots. Message me if you have any more questions.

I've been out to the east arm on a few occasions, always caught some good size Lakers but don't be shy to try for some pike.. They get pretty big out there! As was mentioned above, if your on the water keep a lure in and the fish will come!
Good luck and enjoy the scenery that you will be seeing.

Where in the east arm were you? I found that only the mouths of streams held pike due to the alkalinity of the water. I did catch a couple 40's but as mentioned above, had to go to the mouths of streams where PH changed. Pike were definitely tough to locate out there.

We had fun there last summer when Plummer's opened up - total of 5 anglers in the lodge and lots of big fish.

Big Lakers like big bait/presentations.

Had lots of success with blue T60's in GBL.

Wish you all the best on G.S.

Went up to this lake this past summer. It's just a bit south of the East Arm. Unbelievable fishing and hospitality.

Flew into this lake back in the summer of 1982 twice. Incredible fishing every cast had a laker. Didn't keep any as we didn't bring a cooler. Was a long for a ride in a plane that was checking on fire fighters in the region. We parked the float on a beach and fished from shore. A great couple of hours each time.

Best check before going.

We planed on going last spring but were told that only residents and business traffic was allowed across the border.

We heard that later they did allow some tourists in, but only if they were flying in to a remote location.

I just checked and this is what they are saying now,

Travellers are equired to submit a Self-Isolation Plan (SIP) so that the OCPHO is aware of your vaccination status and travel details for contact tracing purposes if necessary.

Checkpoints have been established at most highway border locations in the NWT. Each location has different restrictions:

Alberta/NWT border (Highway 1)

Only the following people may legally proceed from the checkpoint:

NWT residents.

Those with other exemptions under the public health order – including exceptional circumstance exemptions granted by the Chief Public Health Officer.

Supply Chain workers, including truckers and others providing important supply chain transportation services for food, equipment, fuel, or other goods into the territory, movers and carriers, and workers that support the supply chain industry.

Those transiting through the NWT to other provinces or territories.

We applied and were given SIP numbers without any problem last summer but did give our reason as "remote tourism" and were queried at the Yellowknife airport about our final destination. There were no restrictions though in either Yellowknife or Plummer's and we were free to be tourists in both places. We had a great trip.
