I just got back from visiting family in Winnipeg, and thought I'd post a photo of my brother-in-laws 48 inch musky he caught last Thursday in the rain from Eagle Lake 3 hours east of Winnipeg, about a half hour east of Kenora, Ontario. He is getting good at catching them now, maybe even one fish for every 10 hours of fishing which is really good as they say it takes 100 hours on the water to average one caught musky. I tell him I take all the credit as I used to fish for musky when I lived in Ontario and gave him some of my best pointers...The best time to get the big ones is trolling during the last two weeks of October and even the first week in November. He and his buddies have caught them up to 54 inches, and lost a couple even bigger.

That is a big fish! I never knew they were so hard to catch I always thought they were like pike.

congrats to your brother in law. Looks like a great fish. Also looks like a cold and wet day to be out on the lake.

That's on my bucket list for sure, great fish. I was reading an article on Muskie fishing and it highlights a few of the best pro's out there who chase them and the one guys best day ever (20+ years) was 4 fish in one day!!!!!!! That's craaaaaazy I thought they were like pike as well, it would be tough going out and 50%
Of the time not catching anything and it's the norm

I have heard the rumors on how hard they are to catch, why is this so?

Are they that smart and able to differentiate from lure or real?

Beautiful musky. It takes rotten weather to coax a muskie sometimes.

I never had the pleasure to meet a musky but tried to meet one for 3 days straight one time near Lake of the Woods.
I don't know that I would want to keep a muskie but a head mount with the mouth opened would be nice. I love their ivory tooth smile. Like a jackfish on steroids.

Sometimes the damn things will suspend ten feet from the boat and not hit anything! The. You gotta figure 8 your rod in the water and most of the time they'll swim off but occasionally they'll go full frenzy.

Just a guess... maybe they are harder to catch because the big muskies most likely only eat once every few days. They will inhale a considerably sized prey that might weigh several pounds and they are good. I know I have caught a 14 pound pike that had two whole 1.5 pound goldeyes in its gut so I can only imagine what a big musky's appetite must be.

Maybe not too.

I saw a show recently where a guy fished for a few full days and threw everything he had at the muskies. Nothing until the last hour of the last day did he catch one and it was on a rubbertail jig. Go figure.

Nice catch!

I spent a full 12 hours one day on lake of the woods this summer targetinf musky from 9:00 - 9:00 and didn't land one. We had 10 follows and had two hit at the side of the boat on the figure 8, one even hit twice, but we lost them both... That's fishing !

For you ESOXangler they may be the "fish of 1,000 casts" but for us mere mortals, it is the "fish of 10,000 casts". :)

Missed a zero! Lol I've only got two under my belt and biggest was about 22#s so I'm very mortal. It really shows in my attention to detail and grammar...
