Well here is another newbie question. Everything I have read says you should cast upstream, however, when I cast upstream with a spoon or spinner into a current I have to reel very quickly or it gets hung up on rocks or weeds, is there a trick to casting upstream with spinners?

I seem to get more hits if I let it float downstream in the current towards the cover or obstacle.

Don't cast directly upstream, but on an angle up and across.

Some little planner boards work great on slow moveing streams with small hooks..

Start reeling the second it hits the water and watch your slack line
