Blue fox pelts sold well – prices went down

At Finnish Fur Sales’ international auction today, more than 90 per cent of the over 300,000 Blue fox pelts offered for sale were sold. However, the average price came down from the December auction to EUR 41.34. The price now reached is the first proper world market quotation for Blue fox pelts this sales season, because at the December auction only 30 per cent of the offering was sold.

- Unfortunately, current prices continue to be below production costs. The positive thing is, however, that the sales percentage is high and the Chinese have returned to the Blue fox market, says Pirkko Rantanen-Kervinen, Managing Director of Finnish Fur Sales.

In the two previous seasons, Russia has dominated the fox pelt trade, but its buying behaviour has been cautious in the ongoing auction. Now the largest lots were purchased to China, from where a record number of customers, over 200, are attending the auction.

The fur auction is still going on with the sale of Sapphire and Silverblue mink pelts, the results of which will be reported later today.
