A friend of mine has what I thought was a Sako 75. However the marking on the receiver show sako V. It is approx 12 years old. Was there a Sako 5 and if so would it be worth more or less than a Sako 75?

The 75's aren't marked "75".
The "V" is the action size.

The easy identifiers if it's the series before the 75's are: it would be marked "AV", and have 2 locking lugs instead of 3 like the 75, and would have a bolt guide that sort of looks like a extractor running the full length of the bolt body.

As what DD said. "V" is the action size for Magnum calibers. "IV" is for standard like 30-06,270, 25-06 and a few other calibers. "III" is for 243/260.

Goto the Sako webpage and look up m75 models and it will give you all the calibers to action size.

I bought my first Sako m75 rifle back in 1997, and never looked back. I have several now. I like a lot of others prefer the m75 over the m85 model.:sHa_shakeshout:
