I was speaking to a gentlemen at wholesale sports in Edmonton this past weekend and he informed me that their are lobbiest's and talk about banning the 10 gauge for waterfowl hunting. I have not heard of this on the news nor could find any bit of information on this on the internet machine. Has any one else heard this some where or read it and could provide me with a link? I do not see why they would want to ban it.

I'd say add this to the "Stupid talk heard at the gun counter" thread. Some of those guys are just such morons.

Well , to be honest , the 10 guage is really not nessesary to bring down a goose or a duck ,don't matter if they do ban it , costs dang near 50 bucks for a box of shells too , maybe more.

True but it's worth it for hammering close range coyotes imo

That is true but you aren't the one paying for it so just because you don't like it it doesnt matter?

There's a rumour going around on CGN that the Mounties next move will be to try and ban or restrict stuff like 50 bmg's and 338 Lapua's

Maybe your gun counter guru heard big guns and thought that meant 10 ga.

Well, to be honest, the fact that YOU don't see the need for a particular gun, doesn't mean that someone that does shouldn't have access to it.

Why?

Though, it's kind of funny to think that there's pressure to ban guns chambered in something that I'll bet most anti-gun people have never heard of...

When asked why I shoot a 10 my reply is why not

I dont have a use or desire for one, so it should be prohibited

- many gun owners in Canada

Are there a lot of new shotguns out there available in 10g? Sounds like the perfect home defense tool.

Because you can't find an 8 gauge. Lol

An 8 gauge with slugs has one heck of a giggle factor! I've only ever had the privilege of shooting two rounds out of one. A couple decades ago it still makes me smile.

I was given my grandfathers ithaca hammerless sxs 10 gauge when i turned 14. I remember my Dad buying shells for me at the Can tire by the old centennial mall in Edmonton and complaining about the price. First time i shot it i pulled both triggers by mistake. The first trigger hit my middle finger and i thought it cut off my finger. Blood everywhere, but i learned never to pull both triggers at the same time.
Sorry for the derail.

Honestly, with 3.5" 12ga shells/chambers delivering the same payload, the 10ga has almost become obsolete.....but I 100% support anybody and everybody's right to own and hunt with a 10 if they so choose and have the deep pockets to feed the pigs, lol.
Back in the 90's waterfowling with my ex-BiL and his 10ga autoloader was fun to hear him curse the $2 bills every time geese came over,BOOM BOOM BOOM,2,4,6 bucks GODDAMMIT!! Haha :angry3:

Why ban any gauge or caliber? They could all kill some one, so why limit the projectiles?

Thanks
Bit of a derail , but That Westley 10 weighs and swings as light and fast as a 12 and is a very rare bar in wood example of W.R's great craftsmanship :)
The little LaFeuchaux was a very good gun in its day and is still fun to shoot with 65 grains of BP and a 7/8 oz load of shot - out of s brass case , of course!:sHa_sarcasticlol:
