My heart sank when I woke up Tuesday to nearly half a foot of snow that had fallen. It's come and gone pretty quickly but it was good season for me and I've made a ton of great memories along the way, so I guess I wasn't that heartbroken. I headed out despite the terrible weather because I knew that annual whitefish spawn was in full heat on my home strectch of the Athabasca river and I thought a change in the weather might trigger some bites, at least that was my excuse. It's hard river to fish on foot, the banks are practically walls , the rocks are big and loose, the flow is fast and dangerous to wade, and the bush on the banks is thick and full of thorns bushes. If you manage to survive the onslaught, and are able to locate some fish you can have a lot fun catching lots of grayling and whitefish that range in size from 6" all the way up to fish pushing the 5lb mark.
