Has anyone gone through the process, is it worth it? Duties need to be paid on it?

At times it seems like it would be nice during the day but my last cam i tried was useless soon as it got dark. I understand the unit gains a bit of weight so maybe a stand alone camera would be better during the day?

How did the upgrade effect your battery life?

I have a Humminbird flasher, marcum camera and also a pocket size aqua vu camera. I can't really comment on the LX7/LX9 side of things but generally speaking cameras are useless at night and in low light conditions which includes dusk/dawn and in deep(30 feet is about as deep as most are ok for) or low visibility water.

To me the main advantage of a single unit would be having a more compact and lighter weight system compared to having to carry both around. This would affect everyone differently depending on the type of fishing you do and how you transport your gear etc.

The advantage of having a separate camera unit is that if/when you take someone out that doesn't have electronics you now have an extra unit to set up and keep them happy with(works great for kids/non angling folks) and also if one of the units breaks down you will have something to use while it gets fixed. Also since usually you only use either the flasher or camera you could save a bit of weight/space by leaving one of the units at home.

Only you can really weigh these pros/cons to know what system is right for you. I personally like having the separate units but that is because it suits my fishing style better.
