Today was one of the hardest things, I lost my best hunting partner. Her name was lady. All day I have been thinking about all the great hunts we had and all the other things we would do. From hunting and fishing to camping and hiking to just sleeping on the couch. She was one great dog and will truly be missed. There will always be a bird for you where you are now.........

Sorry for your loss. I hope Lady chases birds in her new home all day long. Gets to lie in the warm sun to sleep when she wants too. That her water bowl is always full.

Tough loss of an old friend. Sounds like the memories will be lasting. Mine is laying beside me - 13 and full of arthritis. They just age way to fast.

All the best.

Every time I see something like this as a 'mans man' I tear up. Very sorry for your loss and i dread the day I see my Duke pass on.

Dogs give everything for thier family. You gave your pup a great and happy life. That's about all we can do as people who have dogs as family members.

Take care

Sorry to hear fella. When dogs were built they darn near made em perfect. Their only flaw is that they don't live long enough.

So sorry for your loss. I put down my chocolate lab MAK 2 weeks ago at 11.5 years old one of the toughest things I have ever had to do.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

^very true. I lost my closest hunting/fishing buddy in early August of this year. I can't help but think about Andrew reading this thread, even though it's about a 4-legged hunting buddy. My condolences. I feel there is something about sharing time in the outdoors that deepens a connection we feel with people. The flip side of that is that (in my opinion) it leaves an even bigger hole in your heart when they're gone. With some luck, with some time, the sadness slowly turns towards a collection of good memories.
