Well, here are some of the deer I "Shot" this year... Yup, ate my tag again. Not that I didn't see deer I could have shot, but I just didn't have an opportunity at a buck I wanted to put my tag on. I saw one dandy I messed up on. He jumped up out of some weeds and rain straight away from me. I've learned over they years that a buck usually looks bigger running away from you than they really are, so I held off. As luck would have it, he jumped a fence about 300 yards away (onto property I didn't have permission to hunt) and stopped and looked back at me.. That's when I started kicking myself... Heavy horned 5X5 about 21 inches wide or so. I saw another massive buck feeding on spilled grain at a grain bin... Just a 4X4, but what a buck...back tines were pushing 14" and he was just a dandy... I got hold of the landowner to ask permission to hunt the next day but was denied...such is life..

We're still dealing with the effects of back to back years of EHD that hit back in 2012 and 2013. We lost a ton of deer, so we're seeing a lot of young bucks but very few mature bucks...

At any rate, here are some bucks I photographed.

I've got the exact same rig. I always wanted to get a 100-400 in the L series, but just couldn't justify spending that much dough. Awesome lens for wildlife though if you feel like spending $3 or $4K.

That buck has potential for sure to be a brute.

A couple of trail cam photos behind the house....never saw these bucks during the season, but wouldn't have shot them if I did....still young bucks that needs some growing. One is a 6X6 and the other is a 7X4.

The date is wrong on the trail came...I forgot to correct it.

That's what we're hoping! I know neither were shot. They were coming from the neighbor's place back behind me and he only lets me and my son and his hired man hunt. So, unless someone poached them at night (always a possibility, unfortunately), they should be around.

Thanks for posting, nice pics... sounds like your neck of the woods in Montana got hit pretty hard with EHD. Out whitetail pop. in S.E. Ab, took a bit of a hit, kinda think it came up the Milk River Valley... Again.. nice pics, and sure appreciate hearing how things are going there..
