well, I didnt want to drive all the way to Newell with no ice report so I hit up good old Frank lake instead, already knew the ice was good there :) only managed 8 or 9 fish, nothing too great. :shark:

Hello Wayne. Do you feel the pike numbers are on the increase now that commercial fishing has been cancelled? Or is it too soon to really notice?

Heading to Newell thursday. Comtemplating where to start/go. Any recent ice reports from newell? Looking for general thickness of ice/ jackfish bay area or by kinbrook launch? Heard that heave had opened up quite a bit in front of cabins prior to xmas..... any info is appreciated. Either gonna walk on or quad out. Just wanna be prepared. Thanks im advance. Paul

Ice was 12"+ on the west side, we used Quads...I rarely drive on Newell, makes me a little nervous! Pretty steady all day with the Pike, couple in the 13-15lbs range...8 or so Eyes between 4 guys, nuthin big but saw tons on camera, good day!!

Seemed to be about 12-14" everywhere today. Fishing was slow.... Saw some pike on the camera, only hooked a few. 2 or 3 walleye cruised by, but didn't bite. Moved into a bay for sunset, and watched a guy nail 4 nice sized whitefish in 10 mins and leave. Saw a few perch on the cam, but our hooks were too big. One last tip up pike and that's all. Slowest day I've had fishing Newell ever. If it stays cold for another week you should be safe driving almost anywhere. Tons of shacks in the bay's and lots of big trucks. Even one nice guy plowing a trail!

Was on Newell Saturday. Lots of good solid clear ice. Some drifting snow . Caught a few pike, nothing crazy big. Bite was a little slow.
Good luck, stay safe

Great lake to fish. Caught and seen many big fish here. My fishing buddy pulled a 9.5 lbs walleye through the ice last year.
