I live in Northern Alberta and have never heard of Waiu Lake so I googled it.
I learned where it is and that Northern Alberta encompasses most of Alberta.
Interesting.

The red area is, according to them, Southern Alberta.
Everything else to the east west line north of Edmonton is Central Alberta, they say.
Everything north of that is Northern Alberta, according to them.
Pretty confusing. Here I thought that Swan Hills town was pretty much the center point of the Provence;

Seems to me that if it were, Waiu Lake and Lac La Biche would be in central Alberta.
I'm not complaining, I just find it very interesting. Funny how things get defined.
I was thinking I might have a suggestion or two to provide but I'm way too far north to be of help in your quest.

Wiau is a shallow muskeg lake that resulted in the nasty winterkill of 2014. If you are intent on fishing that area, try Clyde, Behan, Cow, Drowned Man, or Big Chief in the Philomena area. Chief is spring fed, and quite deep, so you will have to be mindful of the ice. Avoid the area around the creek than comes in from Cow Lake on the south side, about 1/4 the way up the lake. Both Cow & Chief have treated me well in the past.

East of Swan Hills towards Ft Assinaboine is the actual center of Alberta so your not far off Keg. Snowmobiled around there and to the tourist site many times in the past.
