Hi there guys!
Been to Halfmoon couple days ago (Bon Accord), to check out if last years perch grew up... It sure hasn't, LOL.
Has anybody catch a good size ones in that lake? The biggest I've caught was a 9 incher, one out of 30 microperches. No doubt that's a lot of fun catching them, biting non stop. This lake for sure is very good to introduce newbies to the ice fishing, not gonna get skunked))) Before noon we caught like 100 of them between two of us.

Another question. Book says there is a pike, but I was there a few times now, always with tip ups, never had even a hit. Did anyone ever catch a Nothern in those waters???

Farther down some pictures and little video from the recent trip

We are here right now. 1 pike. 60cm. 1 whitefish. Missed a bunch of pike and whitefish already. But no perches. Where are you?

What is it like this year? I heard the gate was locked last year? Do you just fish near the boat launch? I have only Been once and only seen minnows lol!

Perch only get big when there is an abundant supply of food (typically freshwater shrimp) to keep them growing over winter. Most lakes in Alberta do not have this, so they won't get much bigger than 6 inches on average. There's always a few humpies around but you gotta fish through the smaller ones. This is normal.

Nice to see it didn't kill though. Must be a spring somewhere in there.

I see, yeah I was wondering if that lake have any Pike in it, there is for sure a lot of food for them. And lake is pretty deep itself, so there's gotta be some jackfish. Next time I hit East side, like you say.
Thanks!

I've been out a few times over the summer but haven't made it out this winter yet. We used to do ok for pike a number of years back before the last big winter kill but they haven't seemed to really come back since then. Tried trolling for pike a few times in the summer without any success. Perch is great for the kids. Not much worth keeping but constant action to keep the kids entertained.

I see, I didn't know there was a winter kill on that lake, because I was introduced to it only 2 years ago. Been there a few times since then, but never caught pike, now it explains a lot, especialy if you haven't had luck even trolling. ...

I gues that what is suck about Alberta - too many lakes getting winter/summer kill, and you can't even tell which one is the next?

P.S. Disappointed about Cross Lake....

I have only been to Cross Lake twice in the last 15 years or so and have been disappointed both times as well. About 20 years ago we used to do much better at that one.

First time I was fishing Cross Lake was like 4-5 yars ago, and we use to do pretty good there, was possible to catch 2-3 sized pikes and a few perch, but since than it was worse and worse. Last year I was there couple times and and I managed to keep 1 or 2 pikes only...
